Thumbs down DMOZ sucks big time

    Hi Guys,

Finally I submitted my website to DMOZ for listing and I am stunned to see that they don't even send a confirmation mail that the listing is in review or anything like that. How come I will get to know that it got approved or rejected.

Apart from that when I searched gizmodo(dot)com, I see its listed and strange part is that there are 5 posts also listed. Now what is this crap? How come a post gets listed in DMOZ? Any ideas?

DMOZ is one of the best directories over net. Everyone wants directory backlinks from DMOZ for their site. Generally Dmoz takes 6 months for approval let me know when you submitted your site in dmoz. I have submitted many sites in dmoz but never got confirmation mail but still I got approval. So I will say wait for 6 months if your site will not listed do not submit it again.

It is surprising to note that Dmoz sucks time of the lot. Dmoz has a great reputation as one of the much sought after web directories that is nicely divided into categories. It is very popular too.

    Hi Rajan
You are absolutely right and I agree with you that DMOZ has a great reputation in the web but it is also true that it takes lots of time for approval which always create problem. I think we have to use other high Page Rank directories for submissions. Submissions in other high quality directories and directory backlinks will be equivalent to DMOZ.

You can not get approval if your website is new. Only Good websites will get approval and in 6 months atleast.

Dmoz is the Internet’s largest directory system (over 4 million
web sites) and is maintained by human editors. A web site listing
in Dmoz can also be an important part of having a web site rank
well in Google, because Google uses Dmoz results in it’s own directory.

    Advantages of Dmoz :
    • Better relevancy than non-human edited directories and search
      engines.
    • Do not rank, promote or optimize sites, simply a data provider.
    Disadvantages
    • Abuse by editors (not often)
    • Can take a long time to have your site reviewed
Tips for submitting your site to Dmoz
    • Make sure your site has original content and isn’t a clone of
      other sites.
    • Make sure your site is error free and the design layout is easy
      to use.
    • Check for spelling and general mistakes on your site.
    • Submit your site to a relevant categories, otherwise your submission
      will be delayed.
    • Submit your site only once
    Becoming a Dmoz Editor
It’s easy to become an editor at Dmoz, all you have to is,
    • Find a category that you would like to maintain.
    • Click the Become an Editor link at the top of the category
      page.
    • You will then have to find 2 or 3 sites to add to that category
and explain your reasons why you wish to edit in that category.

    @Jhon,

Whatever you are saying is correct but DMOZ is almost dead now. Nobody cares about it now and we should also stop wasting time in getting listed there.
